Nicole's Run - First Annual (5K Run/Walk) -- It's a success

Nicole's Walk ...The First Annual Walk/Run was by all accounts a success.

As I came around the corner at Mother's Beach in Kennebunk, my heart skipped a few beats.  There were so many people, purple balloons, a tent, event staff (well organized!) prizes, information, smiling faces, kids, mothers, fathers, volunteers and most important of all runners and walkers all 300 of them!  This was the first run and to have such a well-organized, well-attended event -- you just have to give credit to Amanda Vanesse and all the people that helped her.   Get in training for next year....walk, run -- we will see you there.

Let us join together and give voice to the silence.  Together, we can really make a difference.

On Sunday, July 13th at 8 a.m. at Mother's Beach in Kennebunk, Maine -

This will be the place to be!  Walk or run in this 5K against domestic violence.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to Caring Unlimited.  www.caring-unlimited.org

If you can't run for yourself- run for Nicole.

Come alone bring a friend, bring a team....it

doesn't matter.  What does matter is that you are there....

Sadly, last year Nicole Oliver, a 24 year old mother of two boys was murdered in Wells, by her husband, who then killed himself.

In honor of Nicole's memory, her childhood friend, Amanda Vanesse, has organized the first annual 5k race.

Sign up on-line at www.active.com.  Type "Kennebunk, Maine" in the search window, which will take you to Nicole's run.  This is a great way to spend your Sunday morning.  Invite your friends, your family and take a stand against domestic violence.  Be a Girl Today is proud to have helped to sponsor this event.

See you there!

I did the walk today with my Best Buy Biddeford team. We volunteer a lot, but today was a little bit different for me. I'm not sure why, but I just wanted to say that it felt good to come out and support Nicole. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.

Thank You

Melissa Harrington

The walk was amazing, the organization was incredibly. It was the best go get out there and feel like you were helping someone. Good job to Amanda and her team for this event. I didn't know Nicole, but I think she would have been very proud of her friend.

I was one of the walkers of the race. I brought my best friend of 27 years and my 7 month old son, Nathan. The day couldn't be any better! The weather was great, the people were friendly and organized and in all the craziness everyone who ran/walked remembered why they were there! Great Job! I can't wait to do it next year.

I haven't done the walk yet, I new niole when I was younger aswell as her mother holly who were family friends. I just found this site and started to cry. I hope that this year comes with more smiles than the last and that her boys grow up knowing who nicole was at heart. I can't say that I was there those past years before she left this earth. But my memmory of us as kids are as vivid as yesterdays events. Please feel free to call me at anytime just to talk. 689-8084. peace to you.

I am very interested in doing the walk this year. I am hoping to put together a team of people to do the walk with me. I, also, have been working with Caring-Unlimited on a photojournalistic coffee tablebook of domestic abuse surviors. I am interested in talking to woman that is willing to tell her victory story...big or small.

This year's run/walk is going to be great - we are all looking forward to participating. Your idea of a book is wonderful. I am hoping that you will post some ofyour pictures on this blog.
